Freezing drizzle changed over to snow here in Lawson about 20 minutes ago.  I just came back from "talking to Santa" and the country roads are very slick.  The chip and seal roads are ice covered.

My kids are desperatly hoping for enough snow to go sledding.  What are your thoughts for our area, do you think it will happen with this one?

Well that heavy band of precip the radar was showing started off as mostly sleet, but has finally started to mix over to some giant snow flakes.

Yep, Snow here in St. Joe.

Great weather for a sleigh ride with some reindeer and Santa, still snowing good in leavenworth. I was looking at wichita radar looks like snow is trying to increase west of salina.

Temp dropped from 32 to 27 in about 20 mins, 64th and I-29. Light snow,  looks very pretty.

5KCK I knew eventually you would get some snow you must be doing Andrew's famous snow dance :)

can anyone tell me if theres' sleet hitting the stuff in middle kck near I70??  it looks like snow but sounds like sleet

You watching Extreme Trains on the History Channel?  I am doing that and chatting and monitoring the weather.

It's not doing anything here in Raytown yet so I have nothing to report.

Got some giant snowflakes coming down now. If I had to guess, I would say half-dollar sized. Most of the snow is melting on contact, but the biggest flakes aren't, and its giving the ground a speckled white effect.

Just went outside here in Gardner and its snowing/freezing drizzle.  Some of the flakes look about 2" in size so its acting like it wants to start snowing harder.
Started shortly after 1am

Still above freezing at Stilwell and no snow -- could it actually miss us? 35.2 and the Johnson County Airport reports 34 and light rain mist. That is the same percipitation we are getting as well.

I just went out on the back deck (which is facing E) and at best we are getting light sprinkles. I can hear the sprinkles more than I could feel them. Nothing white seems to be falling fromt he sky yet.

Still looks like its struggling to snow, some slight snow and once in awhile the bigger flakes fall but it just seems like it cant make up its mind.

The husband and I really like that show. Tonights episode was about a train that I model, The Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey circus train. I really enjoyed watching it.

Oh well fellow bloggers.. I should wander off to bed just in case the world comes to an end tomorrow and an furnace repair person actually shows up. I am getting so tired of waiting for people who never show up or call! I would love to stay up and wait for the snow though.. Enjoy, everyone who stays up for the snow.

Well, we've got the snow, now if only temperatures would cooperate!! Temps still sitting at 33.8, only fallen .6 degrees since midnight.

unless something dramatically changes here soon I don't see the snow sticking to the ground, at least here in southern Johnson County.

I love the show!  I would love to have a model railroad. :)  Have you both ever ridden Amtrak?  I have here in MO and from NYC to SC roundtrip.  Trains fascinate me.

I think the front just went through!! The wind picked up, the temp dropped to 32.8, and my deck is now white!!!

It looks to me like the warm air is too strong and keeping things pushed more North.

Ive got these temps holding steady around 34.7.... and rite now NO SNOW in southern leawood.... the radar looks to be dying on me... grass is still green and roads are still uncovered

We are now officially below freezing in Lenexa, temp just dropped to 31.3 and the snow is starting to accumulated on everything, including the roads.

Andrew, radar trends are the best. A band looks to have set up right over Kansas City, but how long before it moves on or falls apart I don't know. And there doesn't seem to be that much else out to the west.

My wife and I took the Southwest Chief from here to Chicago, then the Capitol Limited to Wash. DC, then the Silver Meteor down to Miami on our honeymoon.  That was two years ago at the end of next week.  To keep it weather related, I'd hoped to see sun, sand, and snow on that trip.  Didn't happen as DC was 70+ degrees when we were there.

I've ridden the length of the Texas Eagle and a good bit of the now gone Broadway Limited as well.

Temperatures here are now in the upper 20s, everything is white! Not enough yet to measure though.

If that thing would just wrap up a bit, we'd get slammed. Just drawing a line from the best echoes, looks like the better action might end up SE of the metro.

Rain finally changed to snow about two minutes ago..@ 2:15. I'm at 87th & Metcalf in OP.  I'm happy it at least started even if it ends up not accumulating very much! :)

Front seems to have come through here now temps dropping winds picking up

ok now this was cool!   an hour ago i went outside and it was struggling to snow.  I just went outside and the ground is coated and its coming down at a medium pace.  I really hope it picks up and gets to the heavy flakes!!!

Another band looks to be developing near Lawrence, so this might not be as close to over as it looked at little bit ago. I'm still suspicious that this might move out before we get any significant accumulations, but I'm a bit more hopeful now.

Still coming down steady in Lenexa. Temps now down to 27.4. Just had some weird giant sleet/snow pellets mix in. I'm not really sure what they are, except they're huge, round, and white!!

While it started out kind of puny looking 15 min ago, it is now mixed with big fluffies, and the cars and driveway have a nice coating now!

Temps crashed here fast.   It was holding steady at 34.5 and a 1/2 hr later it was 28 in OP with a coating of wet snow on everything.    Lets hope the radar trends hold up and the 2nd band of snow out west keeps building as well.

Starting to sleet in Blue Springs. My therm must be acting up, it says its 37.4. It read 34 when I went to bed @ 9 pm. Oh well the front has to be very close! So maybe snow soon!

Just as radman mentioned that second band of snow is lighting up pretty well just west of manhattan hopefully it holds together after that it will be over and it will turn out to be a sunny afternoon but cold for christmas eve.

Just under 1/2 inch here now. Temps down to 23.7. Snow has lightened up a bit, but still steady.

Snow falling at a moderate rate in Prairie Village (75th and State Line). It's beautiful!  The roads were really wet before it started so I'm wondering if it's icy underneath. Something tells me offices will be barren of people tomorrow - Christmas Eve and snow = a great day at home :)

Radar is looking pretty good for KC for the next hour or so. Nice band developed south of Lawrence and moving up I-35 towards the city. Should give us a short burst of snow. Then the radar to watch will be Topeka. Will have to wait and see what the band stretching from SE Nebraska through Manhattan will do.

Snow still steady in Lenexa. Looks to be over 1/2" by now, could be approaching 1"!! Temps now 22.6.

Ive got 31.4 here backwoods and snow has let up a little but still coming down. The radar I just looked at shows more snow developing right on the kansas/missouri boarder and the other band of snow in Manhattan will still have to come through so I bet we do end up with a good 2-4 inches metro wide

First measurement near downtown OP is just under 1/4 "..Snow is starting to pick up again with the bigger flakes mixing in..I hope that isn't it,  but I really am enjoying it as I pull an all-nighter to get caught up with gift wrapping!

We have moderate snow falling in Louisburg. I'd say we have less than 1/2" with moderate snow falling.

another dissappointing event. 3 inch forcast and get 1/2 inch.

yea this one was a major let down, I think if the sun comes out today it melts away...

oh well, snow or no snow its still Christmas and a time to be thankful for what we have around us.  It doesn't matter if you celebrate it or not, its a beautiful time of year that brings people together!

Something tells me we will still see plenty of snow before winter is over!  Stay safe!
