Good Saturday Morning Bloggers,
70 mph winds blow through Johnson county, KS at 4:45 AM and then across the state line into Missouri after 5 AM. A bow echo intersected the cold front and created some powerful winds for about 5 minutes. And, now temperatures are falling fast!
A strong cold front is blasting through the Kansas City viewing area early this morning and it could lead to an icing event this morning and snow this afternoon. This is absolutely fascinating when you consider that it is 64 degrees on the south side of the city ahead of this cold front and in the 20s behind the cold front, a Tornado Watch was in effect, Thunderstorms are heading our way, and it will likely snow this afternoon, possibly starting as sleet or freezing rain this morning. Here is the 4 AM radar image clearly showing the cold front and thunderstorms moving through.

This cold front is stronger than I had anticipated yesterday. Dewpoints just crash behind the front and with the rain falling it will force the temperature to drop below freezing and possibly cause a major problem in the morning with an icing event. I talked about it last night, but this could be rather significant IF the rain keeps falling. This will be quite a shock after the warm air took over yesterday. Look at the surface map from 4 AM:

The main storm is still trying to close off into an upper low and there is a strong disturbance that will rotate through our region later this afternoon. Along and north of this disturbance could be a band of accumulating snow. I will add more later on this morning as we track the end to this crazy and wild week of weather. It will calm down on Sunday. I need a break.
