Good morning bloggers,
This is absolutely the strangest morning of weather I have experienced in years as winter clashed with a taste of spring. A strong upper level storm is approaching. Here are all of the things that happened in about a 4 hour stretch from 2 AM to 6 AM:
- A bow echo moved through with 70 mph winds between 4:30 and 5:30 AM
- A very strong cold front blasted in dropping temperatures to below freezing
- A Tornado Watch was in effect with frequent lightning in many locations
- A Freezing Rain Advisory has been issued and freezing rain is occuring
- Snow is possible this afternoon
- It was 65 degrees at 2:52 AM and 32 degrees by 5:15 AM a 33 degree drop
Here is ESP radar at 7 AM showing the large area of rain and thunderstorms. Remember it is now 32 degrees or lower in many locations as this rain is falling. Bridges, overpasses, decks, driveways, parking lots and other untreated surfaces will likely ice up in the next two hours. The rain will end from west to east and be out of here by later this morning preventing any major icing. Then, we will begin looking for an area of snow which may develop this afternoon.

An area of snow has already developed across western Kansas as this vigorous upper level storm heads our way. Along and north of the upper level storms path will likely see accumulation of snow later today.
Watch NBC Action News at 8 AM as we track all of these developments. I will update the blog right here around 9 AM....
