Question for the after the game weather tonight

Good evening everyone,

I am on after the game to describe this crazy weather that we have been experiencing.  To spice up the weathercast I am asking the following question on the air in the first half hour and I will have the results and read some of your comments in the second half hour, maybe one or two in the first.  Here is the question:

How much snow do you think will fall in our biggest snow this season and when do you think this storm will happen?  This includes anywhere in our viewing area.  I will add my answer during the 10 PM newscast, or rather after the game tonight between the Chargers and the Broncos.  Winner goes to the playoffs.

My prediction:  12 inches of snow around February 4th!

Gary

I think we'll get a 10"+ storm.  We've already had one over 4" and it was very close to the beginning of official winter.  I think it will be mid to late January, possible early Feb.

Bunch of optimists here. I don't see a large snowfall happening this winter. Too many systems are sliding by us and developing to the east.

I don't think we will go above 5" and that will be in late January, maybe Jan. 21st.

My guess is 53 days from now, but that would be the McLouth area.  This system that just came through is roughly the same that came through the first of November about 55 days ago I think.  So, when it comes around again, the pattern will shift just a bit more, making it come in from further north into Colorado, pick up more cold air and moist air will be sucked up by the jet.  But since its later in the year, patterns more established and defined it will give us the snow that all the snowbirds have been waiting for.  How much?  Guessing 5"+ and very little ice this time.  I think in the same storm KC will get 6" and on over towards Columbia 8"

If I'm looking at Gary's LRC correctly, we could get a good snowstorm in mid-March sometime. So, I'm calling for a 6 inch heavy, wet snowstorm about March 10. The kind that brings down tree limbs and power lines, pretty much crippling the city for a couple days. I hope I'm wrong.

I want to take back my guess after some futher research(my last guess was off the hip with bad math)I think I should have thought about it.

Ok my new guess is.............. Feb. 17 with a grand total of 10.2 inches out of the storm , and that may go into the 18th.

My reasoning is that the maps look the same 47 days apart (to my untrained eye)

Brocksmama, you may be very close.

I am going for January 19th.  Will go for 5 inches at KMCI, but somewhere near or in the viewing area may get closer to 9 inches.

The active pattern in Feb could do it too, but would need storms to dig deeper than this time around to get the big snow.  Ideally, it would be during the split flow with arctic air in place to get the higher rain/snow ratio and come from a ULL ejecting from the west coast and cutting off in NE Oklahoma.

But even this setup we might have to watch too much WAA based on location.  Will be fun to watch!

Also, the Arctic Outbreak following the Jan. 22/23 snowstorm will be colder than our Dec. outbreak.  The two week stretch from Jan. 22 through the first week in Feb. will layer enough ice on local lakes to create an ice fisherman's paradise!

I predict 14 inches of snow on January 22rd - 51 days LRC.  Cut off low tracking between Harrisonville and Nevada, and negatively tilted.  Winds averaging 25-30 mph.  Some areas will see 6-10, others 14+.  Near the low, a dusting.  I think that the upper flow will be just right for a big event.

Or - I could be wrong . . .
