Windy Advisory tonight...dry on New Year's Eve

Good evening bloggers,

It is WINDY!  A Wind Advisory is now in effect for gusts up to 50 mph.  High pressure will settle over us by morning and end the winds.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I am taking the rest of the year off......oh that's just one day.  Well, the rest of the week off.  Jeremy will write a blog on Wednesday!

Talk to you next year!

Gary

I spent the last 5 days in Joplin with this wind!  It has followed me home!  And of course we picked up the yard from Saturdays storm today when we got home, lots of little limbs.  Guess I will be doing it again tomorrow.  Have a great New Year everyone, and stay safe!

Is there a map that I can access that shows wind speeds and direction that is updated frequently?

For some reason NWS doesn't have La Cygne in the wind advisory. Well, I can attest that it is VERY windy.

Hey Farmgirl I am with you on the wind on the open praire.  We built this house on top of a hill for the view 4 years ago.  The windbreaks aren't quite grown yet and it gives us a heck of a time.  We are at an elevation of 1210 a good 75 feet higher than the other hills around here.  So it all comes crashing on us.  The one thing we did right is build it as low profile as possible with only 2 windows and 1 door on the north side and no windows on the west end.  We put a 30 year roof on, but these winds are g

I'm with you Farmgirl, this wind is the worst and no one is really addressing it, why so windy this season?  I have never liked wind reminds me of growing up in north central kansas and no trees, no wind breaks of any kind.  I read a book once that talked about the prairie winds that drove people mad in the early 1800s....I believe it!  Right now the winds have calmed so I'm going to head out for a walk.  I'll walk in rain, snow, sleet but I will not walk when the winds are above 25mph which has happened alot this winter.
Happy New Year Everyone!  Here's hoping for a dry, calm and warm new year!!!!

we did seem to have alot of wind and methinks more to come! my wife is reminded of when she lived in NE, and it reminds me of numerous trips to Pueblo, CO - always seemed windy there. i can really do without it (and the snow, the ice, the frigid temps...)

happy new year everyone! and thanks gary, jeff, jeremy and brett for all the hard work you've put in this year!

I wish you guys could be a little more specific when you forcast wind.  The word windy seems so mild compared to what it is doing outside.  Maybe you could say, "Wind that will blow the flag off the flagpole, hair off your head, feathers off a bird" or "wind that will gently caress a baby".

Is it my imagination that the wind is blowing harder lately (this year)?

Stormlover, its very hard to pluck a bird with anything but fingers. People out a recently, very recently dead chicken and a wind tunnel and need winds of 100-150 MPH to get feathers to start coming off! But is WAS very windy outside! ;-)

“We’re at a very favorable state right now for increased glaciation,” said Kutzbach. “Nature is favoring it at this time in orbital cycles.”

The article doesn't say we'd be in an ice age now, it says we are at a favorable period for glaciation based on our current state in the cyclical orbit.  What it doesn't say, but should be considered, is what happens when we are no longer in the part of the cycle that favors glaciation?  One might conclude that during this unfavorable glaciation period glaciers and polar ice will melt far quicker than the current record rates.  The reality is, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trap heat and help to raise the earth's atmospheric temperature.  You can argue about the end results all you want, but that fact still remains.

Well said andrew.lol let's not fight about it.  But be sure to throw your opinion out there.
I don't believe in global warming either, as I believe that is also a cycle.  That said, I do think the things that humans do have an adverse affect climatology.
