The blog below covers today very well. Temperatures still look to be in the upper 50s to mid 60s for the metro, 40s near the Iowa border and likely well into the 60s to around 70 over southeast areas. A little drizzle or a spotty shower is about it this afternoon, then some flurries or a snow shower this evening/tonight.
Since we don't have a 5 p.m. show today due to NFL football make sure to check back for an in-depth blog update this afternoon and also updates on NBC Action WxPlus!

Good Friday bloggers! With the holidays over the last 2 weeks and everyone having time off at some point I don't even know what day it is any more:) The first 2 days in 2009 have been very mild with 40s for highs Thursday, and low 50s today. Another day in the 50s is expected for Saturday, before the bottom falls out once again.
The storm heading our way for the weekend will once again probably be remembered more for the big temperature swing than the precipitation that it produces. So let's focus on the temps first. Waking up Saturday morning as you are about to tune into NBC Action News Today at 8 a.m.(shameless plug) the temperatures will likely already be in the low 40s. Between Noon and 4 p.m. I think we should warm into the low 50s in the metro...maybe mid 50s in a few spots. They will be well above our average high which is now in the mid 30s. By Saturday evening the winds will begin to turn to the northeast and north, and once this occurs the temperatures will take a nose-dive. By Sunday morning areas north of Kansas City could be in the teens, with some spots around 20 in the metro.
Here is a quick look at the forecast temperature map around noon Saturday.

The 50 degree line is right near the metro. Now let's fast forward to Sunday morning at 6 a.m. The temperature drops down to 25 according to this forecast map, but I think the models underdo the cold air. So the metro may be closer to 20 degrees. As I've been mentioning, a midnight high on Sunday in the 30s will likely be the high for the day.

In regards to precipitation the best chance of maybe a dusting to half inch of snow would be closer to the Iowa border. In Kansas City we should see a few rain showers that mix with and change to snow by around midnight heading into Sunday morning. I'm not overly excited about the precipitation based on the model data and also the last time this storm came through in November with a non-phased flow. The map below is from the 18Z GFS and shows total precipitation from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.

Enjoy the weekend and if you have been off from work or school, enjoy your last 2 days of holiday break! Make sure to tune into our weekend shows from 8-9 a.m. and at 5 & 10 p.m.
