A cold blast & some snow

Good morning bloggers,

It's FRIDAY!  And, here we go again.  After 67 degrees yesterday we are having another reality check today.  Temperatures will be dropping into the 20s by the evening rush hour and there is a chance of some light snow.  There is even a chance of a dusting to 1/2 inch of snow in some areas, most likely north of I-70.  I expect to see snowflakes in many spots by 7 or 8 PM and most areas will just see the very light snow blow around in the roads.  I am not expecting any major travel problems with this wind blown very light snow potential tonight.

I will add some thoughts and graphics on the weekend cold and early week snow potential in just a few minutes....

Not much potential for snow Sunday to Tuesday but hopefully within the next 2 weeks that snow change will increase.

This next storm may not have the BULLSEYE in our area or the one after that but we're due for a storm that add up.

At this moment there could be something nearby early Thursday.  We'll have to continue to track the trends, but I think you should be okay at this point.  Have fun in Tampa!

Gary,

After all the "near hits" for snow this season, do you really think the pattern will change so that we actually get a decent snow storm?  Just 3-4 inches would be great given that we haven't gotten much more than that all year.

I love the cold and especially the snow and am totally frustrated with the lack of snow this year.  Is there really any realistic hope that things are going to change?

Thanks for the enthusiasm and accuracy from you and your team.

We don't think the pattern will change, but there could be slight changes to a storm here or there.  As an example...our biggest snow at KCI was about 3".  What if there is slightly more moisture or if the bulleye moves right over KCI.  Maybe this would be 5" the next time around.  The opposite always holds true too...it could go the other direction and be much less.  Or what if the temperature flucuates by a few degrees here or there.  It could be a mix or rain.

The LRC is used for(in my interpretation) the bigger picture using long term longwave troughs and ridges.  Using the LRC for solely microscale forecasting is very tough at this point.

The 12Z GFS is starting to really pick up on the change.  It is a bit ridgy in the MW, but really showing the troughiness building in the West.  I don't think the GFS is right on the locations yet, but it is trying with all its might!

Patience...
