Update on snow developing

Good evening bloggers,

As I am about to go outside for the beginning of the 5 PM newscast the area of heavy snow decreased rapidly.  It pulsed up and then back down, but it has settled into a band of light snow with some moderate pockets in the middle of the band. If this holds together it could produce about 1/2 inch in a few spots this evening and with the sun setting this would accumulate on the roads.

We will track this band at 5 and 6 PM on NBC Action News and I will try to update the blog this evening.

That was almost more cruel than it was good.  Almost like Mother Nature was saying, "OK... here ya go KC... have some good snow... PSYCH!!!"

---------------

I'm still in weather shock.  I really thought that band would swing through the metro area. It just pulsed up and back down.

this was that convergence nonsense i was speaking about earlier.  i saw the convergence riding up stream towards us earlier from the south central ks/north central OK area...i am assuming this was in response to the formation of a weak(850?) low that is forming right on top of us.  you can kind of pick it out on this loop image:

http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/uppermissvly_loop.php

energy is pooling in the deformation area over SE NE and north central/east KS now due to the crossover of energy that caused our bout of snow.  the storm is begininng to wrap up a little bit it seems.  their are more 'kinks' upstream of us in the previously mentioned areas that signify more cross sectional lift ahead before the low passes us...however these newer impulses likely wont be as strong as the last one, in fact, they will probably weaken with each passage.  just my .02

It's like a dome got put over my neighborhood.  The snow was almost here then it just kinda went around.  We've got a half inch maybe.

The "Flurry storm" of 09 continues... I am starting to want some thunderstorms now we did get another "uptick" in the flurry fall rates in St. Joe a bit ago from an inch a decade to about an inch per .4 decade;) Oh, well again at least it is doing something, but ironically I think the snow on the ground is sublimating faster than the "new snow" is accumulating like it is "negative accumulation". Well maybe Feb. will be better.

Nick,

This positively tilted storm produced one of the biggest storm systems of the season south and east of us. Absolutely amazing.  It wasn't that far away from coming together here, but not close enough.  At least we don't have any ice to deal with.

February holds potential.  We just saw a late January twist to a drier December storm.  So, maybe, just maybe we will get one next month.  The active part of the pattern is due in within 10 days.

This is amazing.  Now it acts like it's going to try and pulse back up again... right after it's had a chance to move around the KC area.  I can't believe how stinkin' unlucky this town is when it comes to weather.  Unbelievable!!

La Cygne has a nice small total of half inch of snow. It's been snowing all day... sometimes quickly and other times just a nice slow drift down to the ground.

Thanks Gary.  For what it's worth, I think all you guys do a great job keeping us updated and informed.  Where else can you get updates during the day?!  You really don't "hype" stuff - and if you do, I think I'd believe it!  You said we'd be having a mix of this and that this week - and we sure have!  But I'm ready for Saturday!

My neighbor just called and said that another channel said the Emenience, MO has 5 inches of ice. Is that true? We ride north of there at Big Creek. Where could I go to verify this info?

What a twist Gary,
The last time this system rolled through SW MO got 1" of snow
This time we get an ice storm with at least a 6"+ of snow and still coming down.
I know I have been in panic mode the past couple of days.  We all know if I can get this then you guys have to over the next few weeks.

Gary,

I watched at 5 and again at 6.  It amazes me that the snow developed so quickly and broke down just as quickly.  How you guys are ever able to be so accurate, is beyond me.

Kudos to you all!
