Saturday warm-up & kids

Watch NBC Action News HD Saturday from 8-9 a.m. and at 5 & 10 p.m. for Kansas City's most accurate forecast!

Good evening,

I went to Fox Hill Elementary school today.  Here are the 600 or so kids I talked to today, and Stormy the weather dog performed her tricks including rolling over and catching a bisquit off of her nose.  She was one for two, which is about what this weekend of weather is about. Saturday looks great, and Sunday doesn't look to bad, but colder.

We haven't had enough snow for even a small snowman this season.  There is hope of some snow in February and I will be making a forecast for the entire month of February on Superbowl Sunday night at around 10:30 PM.  In Bethel, Maine they have had a long cold and snowy winter and they made this biggest snowman ever made, or rather a snowwoman.

Jeremy will keep you updated Saturday and Sunday on the developments in the next phase of the weather pattern. Something is showing up tonight that was not showing up until sometime today, so confidence is low.  It's an Alberta Clipper that could bring some snow close to us next week.  The 00z NAM model and the 18z GFS models are hinting at this new development.  I may throw in a slight chance for Tuesday night right before I am on at 10:18 tonight depending on whether I think the chance is really there.

It has been dry, but you know what I believe is ahead of us.  February will bring our weather excitement levels up several knotches!  So, please be patient, enjoy Saturday, and watch NBC Action News for details.  The Super Bowl is on NBC Sunday, with the pregame show beginning 6 hours before the game at 11 AM.

Could it possibly be something about H20 in a frozen variety?  What are the chances of actually getting to or above 70 tomorrow?

Hi Gary,

I've been watching and waiting for the snows you gave in your winter weather forecast and where is this all hiding at?  I remember one possible patteren you presented and that seems to be the one we are in now.  That up/down rollercoaster that boggles my mind.  What's going to happen the last few months of winter?  You think we'll get lots of snow or just this nutty boring weather we've been having?

Can you use the LRC to forecast the Alberta Clippers with your winter forecast in November or do they not form into anything noticable until late December?

------------------

I honestly thought that with this trough to our northeast that has been dominant we should have had snow producing clippers.  But, we have just been in the wrong spot with these as well.  We will test this and hope for something different on Tuesday. The GFS showed the potential as well.  I added the chance into the 7 day.

That is a HUGE snowman, I wonder if they needed a permit for him(or I guess her). I hope they don't get a sudden warm-up or that could be dangerous, the NWS would have to issue a special avalanche warning or something;)  I'm sure Feb. will be exciting but it better be pretty wet, getting kind of dusty.

------------------

Yes Nick, we must get wet soon or we will have major dust storms in March.

On the front of the blog there is this...

"Good evening,

Is anyone out there tonight.....I have something interesting to talk about.

Gary"

And then i click to the comments and everything seems normal.  The five comments before mine indicate they thought something was weird also.  No disrespect, but something is weird.

On another note, I'm so ready for tomorrow.

Brent,

It is amazing how many viewers of the other stations just don't realize that there can be an accurate forecast.  Thank you so much!

The models do seem to be picking up on the storm, but wants to push it east once again.   I will admit, the 18z GFS looks very impressive long term for some major action in the area.     Its all fantasy this far out, but is it?      Either way, enjoy Saturday, because after that it will cool down for a few days again.

I was planing on hauling a horse to day to Shawnee Mission to ride with some friends. However, how strong are the winds and gusts going to be? I don't like hauling in gusty winds.

I would say wind gusts could be around 30 mph.

Gary,
How many people emailed you that snowman because i was one a month or so ago who did. I was so excited when I say it on air last night, I thought I might hear my name mentioned.  My 2 girls thought it was amazing and want to really see it.

*********************

That is a huge snowman!  Not sure how many times the picture was emailed to us, but I know Gary gets hundreds of emails a day.  Someone else sent it to us yesterday.

Andrew..  Dust Storms aren't fun to be in.  Depending on the strength of the storm, it can ruin your car's paint job, and ruin your air filter.   The winds will put the dust / sand / dirt in places that you wouldn't beleieve, and we will be cleaning for days on end..

I have been through a couple of them while in the Army..  They aren't fun at all.

Jeremy,

I have been looking forward to this day all week long! Based on the weather team's forecast I knew this was the day to turn off the furnace and open all the windows. Attention all germs--go out the window! It's so nice to have fresh air in the house again.

Have a great day!

********************* Gary started talking about 60s for today last Monday. I'm a little bummed since I work all day on Sat/Sun, but just being in mild weather for a few minutes is great! Enjoy! Jeremy

Gary added a chance for Tuesday last night.  I wouldn't get too excited.  Looks like a 'chance' and the vort won't have much moisture to work with.

its dry enough that I tossed a match in my bone dry weed patch in my garden and it spread like a wildfire. burned my whole garden in minutes....easy way to get rid of weeds...lol

It may seem innocent, but I would not advise starting any type of brush/grass fires today.  Even if they are small or seem contained one little ember or spark could jump to another grassy area and spread.

You are correct, it is bone dry outside!
