Morning Thunderstorms....June 15, 2009

Watch NBC Action News in HD from 5 AM to noon every morning as we are the only station to have live updates through noon each day!

Good morning bloggers,

We have two more active days ahead of us and this morning it is starting with a light show out there (3 AM).  Thunderstorms are active with frequent lightning, very heavy rain, with possibly some hail as they form north of a warm front.  There is one last band of thunderstorms moving through and then "the cap" may come into play today as warm air at about 10,000 feet expands across Kansas today.  It is a very complex set-up and I will add more after the new outlook comes out from the Storm Prediction Center.

You can go visit the weather blog at www.LRCWeather.com to see how this relates to the weather pattern that set up way back in last fall.  Click on the blog over there.  Look for our next entry during the 8 AM hour.

Gary

A small cell passed through about 15 minutes ago... quick downpour with what sounded like pea-sized hail.

Hey everyone, can I ask a favor from you. I love reading your reports of what was and or is happening at where you are, but I for one don't always remember where everyone is located. So when someone says that they maybe had pea sized hail at their house, approx. where is that located? It makes it easier for me (and I am sure others) to know what is going on where. Thanks

The light show started for us (or at least woke me up) at three something here in Lee's Summit, Mo. Lots and Lots of thunder and lightning with some rain mixed in. There might have been some small hail too based on the sounds I heard on the roof and the windows. The light show has been pretty much continuous since it started. It made for some really strange dreams where the lightning was part of my dreams. lol Stay safe driving to and from work today.

Cool! there looks like there is some re-development just west of Topeka. Headed right his way to Kansas City. I hope that this rain does not last all day though. I would love to see a great thunderstorm set up for tonight! I think we are long over do. Is there any chance that we will get to see rain like we saw last Tuesday? That was just amazing. I will check back in later. Going to drink my coffee and go check out the SPC website. That thunder woke me up real early today.

1.03 inches of rain -- 3 miles west of Leavenworth.  It started early around 4:30 am and it was a downpour for about 20 minutes.  Lots of lightening.  We have had no hail.  Light drizzle now.

Kane-
We have had so much rain in Liberty that just the 3/4" this morning has runoff and ponding!  I love rain showers and lightning also, but not for a few days.  We may not be in a flooding cycle like '93 but damage is beginning to occur here from all the rain over the the past 4 to 6 weeks.  If you are talking a week or so from now I'm with you, just not 'til then.

Any one in Topeka or Lawrence that can report what the line of thunderstorms that just went through are doing? Wind hail or heavy rain? Thanks just wondering what to expect.

If the clouds clear out quick enough and we warm up a lot....won't that spark more storms this afternoon?  Nothing was said about that this morning on the news and with the front so close, how would it not?

That risk area is pretty large. I wonder if it is going to shift any? Wind and hail. Looks like we have a 10% chance of seeing 2" or larger hail. Wow! I bet the dang roofing people will be out in full force. They have already targeted the Belton Area. no offense to the good roofing guys but some of them are like vultures. I understand  with the housing market the way it is but man three people at my door in two days. They argue and tell me I have damage but I don't. Any way going out now to watch the storms roll in. Look forward to an update from the team about tonight.

Have a great day every one and be safe. Urban and small stream flooding advisory.
