A Dozen Watches

Good evening bloggers,

One supercell....significant damage in Norborne, MO and sporadic damage in other small Missouri towns.....80 to 90 mph winds reported....and now what's next?  The best chance of thunderstorms will be across Iowa and Nebraska tonight where there is a moderate risk. We will be monitoring this closely for a southeast turn to near the Missouri border, but otherwise it will stay dry tonight.  Here is the risk area on the 8 PM surface map:

The SPC has had an active evening.  A dozen watches in effect at one time.

A very strong cap will move in Thursday and then a weak cold front will move through Friday.

I'm glad I went to see my little crap head cousin; it really solved a big problem. It's really amazing what a middle school kid will do when you won't make him an account on a weather blog. He will make not just one himself, he will make many. He shouldn't be a problem any more. ;)

Amos, why is it , whenever there's trouble on the blog, it's always one of your "friends" and now it's your "cousin"? Do you really think all the bloggers are that stupid not to see through that ruse? It's always the same story. I'm not sure if there's some kind of illness going on with you but the signs all consistently point at you. I don't think anyone believes it's always a friend or relative of yours when you come back and claim you took care of it. Whatever the excuse you want to use, it all points at you and has for a long time. You need to stop the disruption and spoofings and stop blaming it on someone else every time it happens. No middle school kid would have come up with the ObamaGirl comments, This is you and I hope other bloggers will stand up for you not being allowed to do this anymore.

PM me with further problems. This is a weather blog, not a carnival for the ones like you who want to point out everybody's problems and point out possibilities of wrong doing that have no way to be justified-- ones that are just possible. Any story can be took or twisted to an extreme, and it is partially my fault for not solving the problem at first. For further conversation on this topic, I shall be checking my PM. ;|

Just my thoughts, I always prepare for the worst, but hopefully it is not that bad.

Hello everyone, thanks for the advise earlier Sportsfreak and Bewild79. I'm glad I didn't have to leave but it was getting close for a little while.

So, are we expecting anymore storms tonight I into Thursday morning? If so, are they expected to be strong or severe?

Thanks again.

I saw the damage on TV in Norborne. Was this a result of straight line winds or will they find out there was a tornado?

A very unique day here in St. Joe, first the entire town gets blacked out with some other towns around, then the hot, very humid day gave way to a supercell that moved in from Kan. One interesting aspect about the storm for us was that unlike most storms the front end(the start) was soft, and then the storm hit hardest as it was leaving. We had torrents of rain, a few small less then pea sized hail stones and pretty strong east wind gusts as the storm was about to end which lasted for a while there after with low scud (bits of stratus) clouds racing east to west out of the exiting thunderstorm. Also of note was the lightning which was the most intense where I was at (north St. Joe) right as the storm was ending.  The storm also exhibited quite a bit of faintly bluish/green tinted coloration of the clouds and even the thick rain/hail shaft as it was leaving my area.
A very impressive and awesome looking event( not awesome if there was damage), but the intense cloud structures, movement, surface weather was very exiting. That is the report from storm-thurst quenched Nick in St. Joe.

Agreed Zach Kumke. I would like to see the comments remain open and the multiple accounts stopped. And Amos, you can stop with the PMs.

I think the storms stay north too. Saw some awesome funnels watching the chasers west of Grand Island, Nebraska. Norborne getting 100mph straight line winds is just incredible. Waiting for the NWS to decide if it was all wind or something else.

Bloggers,

We will leave comments open, but please no personal attacks.

In defense of the NWS and the watch boxes they issue, as far as Jefferson County KS is concerned they did a great job over the course of this severe weather season.  There has only been one time when a severe thunderstorm or tornado watch was issued and we did not have some type of severe weather in the county.  I am pretty critical of them most of the time.  But, so far they have done a good job of posting the boxes in time for us.

Could have been a lot worse for us.  In years past they have issued watches and warnings after the severe weather has moved through.  Thats always nice.  To have have 70mph wind, 3/4" hail and heavy lightening and not have a watch or warning issued.  Then after several minutes of it being passed through they issue a watch/warning for us or Leavenworth County.  And I am not taling about the storms that develop on top of us.  I am talking about storms coming in from Shawnee or Jackson County.

Recently experienced a heat burst here in Hutchinson. The temperature at the airport rose from 83 to 91 in 15 minutes between 11:30 and 11:45 because of a decaying area of thunderstorms. The dewpoint also dropped to 48 degrees. I was outside and the winds were gusting at times to 50 mph for about 20 minutes, then went calm.

The temperature is now 80 with a dewpoint of 58. Just got some reports of damage from 60-70 mph here in town from the collapsing thundershowers. That will make our 4th windstorm in the last two months!

I actually see the concept behind what Amos talked about in the Democracy 2008 forums, and tend to agree with the thought process behind it. On the other hand, it would make more sense to contact NWS about it instead of blogging about it here.

I have to admit that today was pretty entertaining with the weather. My wife and I go to use my mom's pool, and the temperature drops like a rock.
