NBC Action Weather Blog

A Wednesday Evening Update

Good evening bloggers,

We have a rather complex forecast on our hands for the holiday weekend. I do believe it will rain Friday and Saturday, but if the timing is right then we will still have a pretty good Independence Day.  One thing that is fairly certain....it won't be sizzling hot this Fourth of July!

We will be debuting our "Uggy Scale" tonight on NBC Action News at 5 PM! If you have any ideas of how to rate the scale please let us know!  Go back a few blog entries to see what other bloggers had to say.

Here is the scale we are using at 5 PM from one of our bloggers.

0 - Decent
2 - Tolerable
4 - Annoying
6 - Soupy
8 - Excessive
10 - Ridiculous!

We will continue working on the "Uggy" scale.  Anyway, so what lies ahead?  We have now moved into July and the heights continue to rise.  The models have been responding to the higher heights with weaker flow and a slightly different look to the weekend forecast every time we look at the models.  The best chance for rain this weekend will still be in the late night and early morning hours.  I will do a more extensive blog in the morning.

I was actually hoping it would be dry and hot for the Fourth. Now I'm just hoping the day doesn't turn into a wash out. Nothing ruins that holiday faster than rain!

The latest data is showing that the rain will be ending by early afternoon on Saturday.  It is looking now that it should be dry for the fireworks.

Gary-
Did you use any more at 6? I missed the 6 o'clock show :(

I'm thankful for the increased humidity and chances of rain over the holiday weekend I hate to say. Accidents do happen, like the time I was at the lake, and somebody, who was very responsible with fireworks, had an accident, and shot one at the side of the neighbors house! Thankfully, no harm done!

The only sad thing about the morning rain is... once again we will be high on the "uggy" scale! Maybe 6 or 7? In the soupy, and maybe close to the excessive range... again! Once again, maybe not a bad thing.

Maybe remnant outflow showers? These storms are hard to predict ;)

Here's my entry for the uggy scale:

0 = lovely
2 = bearable
4 = damp
6 = sticky
8 = drippy
10 = oppressive

And my Congratulations on your 10 years at KSHB!!!!!  What year did you come to Kansas City?  That's about how long I have been your fan for the weather and your dogs.  You were in your 20's, I believe, and had plenty of hair.  In recalling those long ago days, I got to thinking about Kelly Waldo who was the morning news anchor way back then.  Wonder where she is now--she did move to Chicago when she left KC.  I always enjoyed her, too!

Our family is coming up from Joplin to the K on Friday night for the game. What are the chances that they'll both A-get the game in, and B-be able to shoot off the fireworks.

It looks good for both right now.  We will be following this closely in the next two days.

You and I are on the same page! I get so sick of dressing for the dead of winter in air conditioned buildings. Yep, I have a heater at my desk.

Friday night MCS...

Sat will have a surface low to our SW...we will be pooling moisture in the KC area.  Will be near surface convergence.  Will it be just to our south as fireworks are ready to go up, or will we be delayed or get elevated convection from the LLJ firing over the boundary and get Mother Nature's fireworks?

Rain is going to be in the area both Friday night through parts of Sunday.  I am leaning to rain vs. widespread fireworks.  The later Sat night, perhaps the better for fireworks in the metro.
