Watch NBC Action News HD for Kansas City's most accurate forecast!
Good evening bloggers! Look at this cool satellite picture from late afternoon. The narrow band of clouds close to the metro is an outflow boundary from thunderstorms that rumbled over north-central Missouri this afternoon. Temperatures during the late afternoon were in the 70s in spots, with mainly mid 80s behind the outflow boundary. The outflow is slowing and will become stationary or wash out this evening. It may reach downtown Kansas City or Overland Park before 'washing out'.

Here is the surface map from late afternoon showing that some areas, like Chillicothe were in the 70s! Just south of the outflow in the Ozarks it was in the low 90s. Despite the rain-cooled air, dew points remained in the 70s behind the front.

The focus for tonight will be if/when/where thunderstorm complexes will develop and move. Right now I think one area of showers and thunderstorms will develop in southeast Nebraska and move southeast likely producing some showers and t-storms in or very near the metro. Some heavy downpours and gusty winds will be possible. There is a slight risk of severe weather, with the greatest risk being damaging winds.
This forecast from the 18Z GFS shows an area of rainfall between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. The best timing in the metro looks to be after 3 a.m. If severe weather develops we will have you covered in the blog and also on NBC no matter what time of night it occurs.

Have a great night and make sure to watch NBC Action News at 10 p.m. for the latest on the possible overnight thunderstorms.
