Next Storm Diving In...October 26th

Watch NBC Action News in HD for Kansas City's Most Accurate Forecast

Good morning bloggers,

The last band of showers moved out earlier this morning. The clearing line is advancing fast and it looks like we will have a sunny & cool day.  Our next storm is a strong one diving into the west and it is going to be a very strong storm.  How will it affect us? Let's take a look:

The map above shows the deep upper low centered over Arizona. This 500 mb forecast map is valid at 1 PM Wednesday.  This is going to create a majors snowstorm over the Rocky Mountains and higher elevations of the western states, but the impact on our area could vary from just one or two bands of showers to some very heavy rain & thunderstorms later this week.  A strong cold front will eventually move through by Friday, but the biggest impacts from this storm could end up being the warmer air being drawn north and a lot of wind.  Here is the forecast surface map:

So, it looks like we will go another week without a chance of our first snowflake. To end the snowflake contest an inch has to fall and you have until November 13th to enter the contest.  Here is a little fact for you this morning?  What city that averages around 10 inches of snow by today's date hasn't had more than a dusting of snow so far?  The answer is Fairbanks, Alaska.  They have officially had 0.2" of snow this season, so the snowflake contest would be going on there as well.  One of the features of this years LRC is affecting Fairbanks already. Go to www.LRCWeather.com and click on the weather blog over there for more details on this feature.

I was at the game yesterday and what is wrong with this picture:

It did begin raining during the last two minutes of the first half.  Look at all of the people leaving the stadium.  It was halftime....HALFTIME of the Chiefs game.  Yes, they were trailing 20-0, but about half of the crowd left at halftime.

Have a great start to your week. We will be tracking this next storm on NBC Action News with some special weather graphics.

.44" in Belton. Do you think that we will see this set up later this year. This would be a great winter storm wouldn't it?

I was traveling to Independence Sunday afternoon at about 1:30.  I would normally go I-70 east, from I-435 to Lee's Summit Road, but after hearing how badly the Chiefs were doing, and seeing the rain, I figured there would be lots of stadium traffic, so I took an alternate route.

Last night's precipitation seems to have been mostly in the form of leaves.  I found a layer of them on my car when I went out to it today.

Gary. I've never quite understood why people spend the amount of money they do on sports events; Chiefs in particular.  Even when they were good, they were overpriced.

I'm a football fan, albeit not a big Chiefs fan.  I would much rather sit in front of a big screen with friends, food, drink and several games to choose from than be in the elements.

But, to each his own.  Leaving at halftime yesterday adds a new definition to "fair weather fan".

-------------------

It will be tough to get the Chiefs fans back once they leave as the team struggles. It hasn't been that much fun out there, and this is what we spend the money on. It should be a very fun, exciting experience.

The Chiefs may be blacked out soon, so you may not get to watch this on tv in a few games, maybe even this year.

My rainfall total is 0.25". Looking forward to the cool weather this week. It needs to dry some so we can get all these leaves picked up and mulched before the time change happens. Have a great start to your work week.

Hmm, you were using a very, very poor quality camera and/or film?

All joking aside, get back to work and generate us some snow and ice!

Yes, the 3 pixel camera on my phone just doesn't take clear pictures.

Yes, Gary, they will be blacked out at some point.  However, that just means some potentially competitive games will be shown on TV instead.  Not seeing the Chiefs on TV is WAY better than the product on the field now.  Don't expect next year to be any different.  They are at least 2 more years away from being "good".

Things went downhill rapidly at Arrowhead...it was really nice in the morning out tailgating. People were eating and having a good time. Then when everyone got into the stadium, it changed for the worse. Clouds, wind, light rain, thunder...and the game was even worse. We stayed through the 3rd quarter then left.

As much as I HATE these rain systems (my crops are still in the field, and we are almost into November!!!!) I can't help but think about what could happen in 40-60 days!!  Perfect southwestern storm systems, perfect tracks right now overhead.  Shift this south due to the seasonal pattern shift and it spells MAJOR snowstorms for some people in the upper midwest!!  Overrunning pattern with an open gulf.  Now all we need is that cold air to funnel in ahead of these storms.  But WHEN??!!??  It's at least 30 days away, but that depends on whether the pattern started in October or earlier.

I am still a fan of the Chiefs. Even if I did fall asleep for the entire second half. I fear the worst thing is for them to loose the fans support. I know we always here " we are rebuilding" . I think if the fans hang in there the Chiefs will make it back. No team can stay on top forever. Or close to the top.

I am still a Chiefs fan, I just don't have the money to go to their games. They are young, and it will take a couple of years to "rebuild".

Okay, here goes...

Haley's 22 guys off the street are getting shelled.  At least Herm's 22 borderline NFL players played competitive games.  The team lost most games last year by 7 points or less and fielded legitimate NFL talent.  We've traded or cut our NFL talent and are left with "22 guys off the street."

JOCOWX145, 2 years away would be a major miracle.  We lack NFL talent at almost every position.  What are we building our team around?  We have no running back, one true NFL wide receiver and he would be the 3rd receiver on most teams, no fullback, no O-line, no quarterback, no safeties (John McGraw looked like a punter covering Darren Sproles), one cornerback, maybe our strength is a good d-line and no linebackers.  Actually, our true strengths are our punter and kicker.  That spells bad news.  Holy smoke, we're looking straight in the face of the '87/'88 teams or the '76/'77/'79 teams.  This is bad.  Real bad.  Worse, we got rid of any young talent except Derrick Johnson.  This team is not young, it's old and it's bad.

Here's the kick in the stomach: Ticket prices are going up and the Kansas City Chiefs have been playing with a Dallas Texans logo the last two home games. Can it get any worse?  These may actually be darker days than the late '70s and '80s. How 'bout this Clark, take that stupid D and state of Texas off our helmets and spend your money putting a legitimate NFL team on the field.  KC will support the Chiefs.  But these Dallas Texans are bad and I'm not spending any more money on this team until I see that KC back on the helmet.

Good points, supercell.  But, I want to point out a couple of stats:

The Texans logo is an NFL anniversary tribute.  August 14, 1959 was the date the AFL was formed.  All former AFL teams are sporting their original logos this year.

According to ESPN, the Chiefs are the 3rd youngest team in the NFL, with an average player age of 26.36 years (Opening day 2009).

OK, I will stop posting sports-related info on a weather blog.

You're right about the throwback logos, but teams had a choice to pick what logo/jersey they would like to use from the AFL days.  It did not have to be the 1959 Dallas Texans.  The Chiefs could have honored the AFL by using the 1966 KC Chiefs logo, the year we played in Super Bowl I which at the time was called the NFL-AFL Championship game.

You're also right about getting back to weather.  I digress because I'm a die hard Chiefs fan and the last few years have been hard to take.  Oh well, at least we have ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK basketball to get ready for...wait, does this start another sports thread?

Now I KNOW that is just modelitis affecting the internet, but I see it as a light at the end of the tunnel, signs of the changing seasons. Fall is boring, BRING ON THE SNOW!!!

Today was kind of chilly as we stood outside waiting for the chance to get into the pit at the Springsteen concert tonight. Imagine our heartbreak when we found out just minutes from being let inside that it was canceled. At least it didn't rain on us as we were waiting though...even though that probably would've fit the mood as everyone had to leave!

Good Morning Everyone,

Not really a "weather" question, but can anyone tell me if what I saw zipping eastward in the eastern sky about 10 minutes ago (6:45 a.m.) might have been the space station? It was heading east on a smooth arced trajectory and didn't blink like an airplane. Maybe the space station? Thanks and have a great day -
