Gary,

The front gently slipped through in southern Overland Park at about 6:00am. Before then, it was dead calm. As the front went through, I felt a very soft cool breeze out of the northeast. Later, when I left for work at 7:00am, it was again calm. The front may be stalling out.

By the way, it reached 100 at my home on both Sunday and Monday.

The front is just sitting near Olathe. After this next band of showers misses us to the northeast, the front may slip a bit farther south. But, not much.

Hi, Weather Team! I have a question about Tropical Storm Dolly; I know sometimes the moisture from Gulf of Mexico hurricanes, and particularly those that strike Texas, gets swept up our direction. Any chance this might happen with the remnants of Dolly?

Unfortunately, not with this weather pattern at the moment. That moisture will have no chance to come up here, as we are in northwest flow aloft which will prevent anything from coming up from the south.

I know it was comfortable (in the low 70s) when I left my home in Overland Park this morning. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be tolerable at lunch time so I don't have to run the A/C on my gas guzzler. I'm also glad that my hubby is working in Richmond, MO today. I nearly wanted to take him to the ER last night when he got home from work because he looked so overrun with the heat!

If you look at the radar loop the last couple of frames shows all the activity SE of the general Metro area looping back around. The last couple of frames make it look like it is moving SE to S to SW and maybe a little NW. It will be fun to see what happens. I have someone driving up from Tulsa, OK to look at a car today. I hope she does not get too wet on the drive.

99 on Saturday? That's just totally nuts! At this rate, none of us are going to be right on the number of days over 90! What happens then Gary? Just the highest number closest to the right answer?

It probably will stay under 90 today, and for sure tomorrow. And, Saturday's forecast may change a bit. There is another weak cold front that I talk about in today's blog. For the contest. Someone will win. We are a long ways off from 20 90 degree days. And, a few went way up into the 30s.

We could really use some of that rain down here!! I have cracks in my yard and the grass is turning brown. It has been awhile since we had measurable rain fall other than a trace. That being said I am also hoping for some hot hot weather cause I have a lot of 90's that need to happen before I can get close to winning. LOLOLOL!! Have a great day!!

I guess its not a bit suprised that the heat hasn't stuck for this week...while I was expecting a bit less of NW flow this early, I kinda hope that we can string together some 90s in the next week as I am not convinced we will get that many more later as the NW flow really takes hold.

WOW, what a night!! Strong thunderstorms formed early yesterday evening, and severe thunderstorm, and tornado warnings were prompted. From what I heard, there was a small tornado on the ground in Linn County, 10 to 15 miles or so north of where I live. Pretty Cool!!!!

After that moved east, a cluster formed north of KC and grew, and moved east. As it did so, another cluster formed along the IA/MO leaving a small gap that would of made the storms miss Marceline, but as the gap entered Linn county, it quickly filled in. This was at about 11 to 11:30 PM. The clouds were very dramatin, and so was the lightning. As the storm moved through, we got torential sheets of rain.

I thought that was going to be it, but as soon as I said that, there were small showers, and thunderstorms forming west of Chillicothe again (about 1:00 AM)! I decided to go to bed, and when I woke up around 5:30 AM, It was storming again, and, the radar showed the storms training in a long line NW to SE right through Marceline.

Now the rain is finally over, and we ended up with 2.5" OF RAIN IN MARCELINE.

Hopefully we see these colf fronts keep coming down like this.

scott, 3 days in a row of 90s, 1 day off, and then back into the 90s again for the remainder of the short term...it sounds like its sticking to me. i am not convinced that the NW flow will return until the middle of august sometime.

Hopefully there will still be fronts arriving and we won't end up in an extended heat wave. If fronts do arrive, hopefully they come in some other orientation because the way they have been arriving is not at all conducive to rain in the northern part of the metro and/or the official recording site at KMCI. While KMCI is showing above normal rainfall for the month, 50% of that fell one night early in the month, a night when I got just slightly over an inch. KMCI has had just .28 of an inch since July 12th. While there are chances of rain this week it sure doesn't look promising. I know my yard has turned from a lush green to a nice brownish color over the weekend.

I am totally amazed how much rain has fallen to the NE, E and SE of KC last night and today so far...and not a drop here. Extremely frustrating seeing and hearing of all the 2inch + rainfall totals as I'm out watering the lawn. As usual its feast or famine in the Midwest...someone is always getting left out and its KC's turn at the moment. Maybe something will still pop up this afternoon...I HOPE!

There are a few rolls of thunder (very few . . . ) and some sprinkly stuff in Blue Springs now. I was out at lunch- when I left, it was feeling pretty hot and humid (to me) - but after I ate and came back, it's cooled down quite a bit!

Well last night was one heck of a light show here in st. Joe. Unfortunately I had to work all the way through it, but I did notice cumulonimbi yesterday evening, and lots of lightning, but it never did really rain, at least where I was, but we will see what the next few days bring.

Just had a nice rain here in Kingsville. It rained for about ten minutes and I checked the rain gauge and picked up .25 inches of rain....enough to give the lawn a nice drink!!

Braysmama - we getting lots of rain there in Kingsville? We had some HUGE toads in our yard thi smorning! We always have toads but a couple were as big as baseballs! The beagle was the only one out and he was afraid - the small ones, he steps on if we can't get to them first! I didn't water anything, thinking it would rain - it was thundering quite a bit. Then it looked like we weren't going to get ANY rain and I figured I'd have to tonight! So even lots of little heavy downpours will be good -- give it time to soak in inbetween!

Hummerseeker-well, I wouldn't say it was a LOT of rain, but my rain gauge had a quarter of an inch in it. I guess we were in the right spot for it-it lasted for about 10-15 minutes and came down hard at times. The sun is back out in full force now, but the temp is only 79.4, so it's bearable. :)

I believe the chances for storms in your backyard is slim, but a isolated storm or 2 might give a lucky few some rain. That being said, I think the chances are low for the metro getting any rain out of this event. There is a big contrast of temps right across our area, but nothing seems to be firing. Lets hope I am wrong and those storms off to the west build into a line.... but they will die before they hit JOCO as usual :P

Its hard to believe that after the first week of June I would be praying for rain. I have never had water in the basement until that storm hit. I guess the old saying still goes ... location, location, location!

Well, I hate to gloat but up here in Cameron, we got plenty of rain last night and today. I wasn't here when it fell today but by the looks in the feed troughs, I'd say we got at least 1.5 to 2 inches if not more. By the looks of the gravel road, it came down hard, there are washes on the hills and there are plenty of puddles around (and the sheep are clean :). We've been lucky up here this year and have had good spread out rains to keep our pastures healthy and growing. I certainly haven't checked patterns but it kinda matches the snow patterns we got over the winter.

Rain, Rain, All Around but none falling on my ground!

I can see storms off to the west and north of La Cygne, but just a few renegade drops are falling here. I could use a nice 1/2 or so. Cracks are already forming in the yard and the grass is getting crispy. Only the weeds look great. :)
