Gary,

Enjoy the Coldplay show! I'll be eager to read your review. My wife and I got great seats for the Sprint Center show in November. We've been waiting for a group that we're eager to see to come and play the Sprint Center and this will be just the ticket. It worked out beautifully that they had to delay the tour since we were out of town earlier in July when they were first scheduled to be playing here in KC.

Did you see them play at Bonner Springs back in 2005? If you haven't seen them before, you're in for a treat...they put on a fantastic live show, in my experience. Enjoy it!

Im ready for the snow, and HEAVY thick fat snow flakes coming down in earnest on a Friday night. In the meantime we need some stormy weather!

NWS and SREF going for 88-89 degrees.

Where is the warm front going to set up? Based on the pattern of the last week, I am inclined to think that the cloud cover will dominate with scattered rain chances as we have something..not sure what it is..something now guiding the arching pattern of precip around the metro..but bringing it in the cooler air [relative speaking].

We will not get enough direct sunlight in time to get us that hot. I think KMCI stays under 90 tomorrow.

So, who will be right? ;-)

To tell you the truth, I could care less about Hurricane Dolly. It is a minor hurricane hitting a sparsely populated area with little or no impact on our weather here. I get so frustrated with national media who hype these hurricanes and have their anchors out in the wind. Someone had a great spoof on that this morning. Pretty funny.
One reason I have liked 41 weather is that it is local. when you start to talk about a hurricane like Dolly, I turn the channel or skip over the blog.
I would have much rather had you explain the cold fronts dropping down this week and the chance for rain rather than spending time showing us the eye forming in Dolly last night. Just my two cents. Know others may disagree but I may speak for others who are afraid to ruffle any feathers.

Brownsville TX is in the direct path. Populationwise, it is the same size as Overland Park.

I would not consider either one "sparsely" populated. In addition, the rainband and flooding potential extend over a much broader area.

In addition, when that large of a field of motion and energy enters the pattern, it almost certainly affects our weather. While we may not see a direct impact of rain or surface effects, it does influence how the strength and location of the entities that DO affect our area behave.

Fair enough of the local concerns, and certainly everyone has a reason for being here...so, I do not take any issue with your thoughts, but did think I would put in my views on the above items.

All it takes is for one reporter in the action to get swept away live [permanently] on TV, and they will stop this nonsense I hope. I agree with you there.

Dwight, I lived the Rio Grand Valley which is in the path of the hurricane. This is in the border area which is NOT sparsely populated. It does not take much to flood that area. When it floods, it is not flash flooding that goes away when the storm ends like it does in this area. If it floods, it will be a muddy mess for those living in that "sparsely populated " area.

yay for Dwight!(ha) I'm glad to see the temp on Saturday go down to 89, I still hope you can bring down sunday's not so awesome 99. as for Dolly, I like hurricanes and I appreciated the segment on it.

I thought the hurricane stuff was pretty interesting, especially since I have friends on San Padre Island. No one can get over the bridge to them and they're basically on their own (the people,not my friends!) trying to batton down the hatches. The real photos of stuff like that (like tornados and other extreme weather stuff) fascinates me. Nothing much going on here - hot weather, rain chances, cold fronts that aren't really cold - might as well report on weather where it's happening! If WE were having bad stuff, I don't think that the weather people would spend theri weather time talking about weather that doesn't affect us - but since it's "slow" around here, what the heck?! But I do appreciate your opinions Dwight - I know its frustrating! And I also appreciate that everyone on the blog can say what they feel (within reason I guess) and not get jumped on or "thrown off" the blog. If it weren't made up with so many people with different likes, dislikes, opinions, forecasts, etc. - it would be quite boring and wouldn't last long!

So opinionate away everyone - I enjoy it!

Oh yea- I do agree with you Dwight about the news people being actually IN this stuff - same way they get out in ice storms and blizzards around here to "show" us how much snow and ice and how slick it is. I always feel so sorry for them. Don't necessarily think they need to be in the possible danger zones just to entertain us (which, if we admit it, is mostly what they do it for!)

Well my parents just missed a big storm last night, they went to the Royals game yesterday night and they said that they(the Royals) were not doing well and it was getting late for them so they decided to leave early, as they left they said that they noticed some lightning in the distance but didn't think anything of it by the time they got back to St. Joe they found out that there was a rain delay and it was pouring at the stadium!

Probably a good game to leave. The storm produced some heavy rain and small hail.

Scott, I agree with your post about hurricanes in general. Except for a really strong hurricane, like Katrina which hit the gulf, I don't really think hurricanes effect our weather pattern at all in Kansas City. They certainly do effect the weather to our south and east.
I'm also in agreement that the Weather Channel doesn't need Jim standing on a beach pretending the situation appears worse than it is. Scores of people were killed this year just in KC and Kansas by tornadoes. Where was the WC? A lot of us grew up with the WC and like MTV, it's become mostly a day long storm story routine.

I'm not a big fan of TWC...but their hurricane coverage is better than the cable outlets in my opinion.

Also, I don't think anyone was killed by a tornado in Kansas City this year.

Dwight, you're right. You will get some grief over this. Really, there are no "minor" hurricanes. It became a Cat 2. But this is supposed to produce a lot of rain and that's what kills many, many people in hurricanes. If you think about it, a Cat 1 hurricane is "sustained" winds (not gusts) of 74 mph or greater. That can do a lot of damage. Most of the victims in Katrina died by flooding. So even if it doesn't strike here, it still is of interest here to many people.
