ike is very impressive looking...its taking a similar track that brings many bad storms to the east coast of fla. we will see if it continues, but, fortunately...they have already had a 'warmup' storm down there which will help preparation for them...its much like here in the beginning of winter how it seems like a lot more people than usual drive stupid during the first snow, but by the next go around, people are more careful(usually).

the only thing to keep in mind with ike is that it intensified quickly, which means that it will most definitely go through a weakening phase eventually...hopefully it does...and if it doesnt, hopefully it moves quickly through fla.

btw, the st. johns river in central fla is still at record flood stage from FAY. there are still homes under water there...i guess if a storms name isnt katrina and it doesnt hit a politically convenient area then its not national news worthy... :/

anyone have a rain total in Olathe? I work there and rain really slows us down. It seems as though they have missed out on significant rains. Is this true?

Seems Olathe has double its rainfall totals since my earlier post...they are blazing!

.36 inches today so far. Add that to their staggering trace amounts yesterday, and well..you still get .36 so far.

KMCI has not kept up with the same pace of doubling ;-(

.45 inches today so far. Yesterday, they were fortunate to catch a thunderstorm at about 2:30 PM yesterday yielding a quick .74 in.

Yea for KMCI! Finally showing the rain that should have been there all year!

Too bad Olathe doesn't get the love this time.

Even Lee's Summit has gotten .41 today and a quick .28 from the late afternoon thunderstorm yesterday.

All in all, for today..a bit short of anything overwhelming.

Gary, based on radar estimates, the current rainfall rates are the same or less than they have been all day for the metro...<.02 an hour. I guess if we get another 24 hours of rain, we might squeak out a full inch in the metro...

Yes, the rain coverage is expanding, but nothing even remotely strong. Again, looking at radar estimates, including yesterday with the convective enhancement, only a few spots are over an inch. Not over a broad area at all...

My forecast for an inch or less was for today and tomorrow. I guess we will see.

Pray for some instability?

Looking at the COC, it looks like it moved about 30 miles today a bit further north, and maybe about 5 miles west.

If you can squeeze out 2 inches out of this...let me know...it might happen..who knows.

we have had a steady rain all day today. its lovely though. the sound, the temperature are so pleasant and relaxing.

murph- that is crazy that they are still at flood stage. it would not be good if another storm comes trucking in.

Hey guys, Gary in my viewing area we are averaging about 2-4" of rain. Some areas have exceeded 5". Wow, the comma head is moving NE.

Then how can you explain the increasing intensities of the rain? Because there is a lot of lift. You are overanalyzing, just look at the radar trend. It is right in front of you. Here comes the rain, just as I was expecting. It was a long wait, but it now appears that 1 to 2 inches of additional rainfall is still likely.

It is odd, I know it. Gary and I where talking earlier how the remnants of Gustav is very similiar to what occured back on October 25th, 26th & 27th. Gustav is identical to what occured 11 months ago at the beginning of this 52 day pattern. Now at the end of the pattern, we see the same track with a very similiar system. Interesting!

Gustav just got caught in the same pattern. But, this pattern is within weeks of finally being over.

Question 1 - has a storm like IKE ever caught up to or taken away the power from the hurricane in front of it?

Question 2 - if it could catch up, what do you think would be the result?
A monster storm or due to the power struggle between them, a weaker storm?

Question 3 - Do you think it would affect the projected path if IKE were to drain some of Hanah's strength?

Question 4 - is there any recorded history of two hurricane's affecting or catching up to each other?

It may not have had the punch for the metro, but I found watching the storm move toward us fascinating. Many places to the SE got dumped on and this storm had a bite when it came to rain. I have not remembered having a tropical storm interact with our area in some time... at least 10 years (know we got hammered by one of them) 2 storms in one year... what a strange summer

Ike looks to be a real trouble for Florida and maybe even the gulf. It will be fun to watch this week.

On the NWS regional radar, it almost looks like an eye is forming over NW Arkansas!

This has been a most excellent weather event. I'm pumped about what lies ahead for the fall and winter!

Was out for much of the day and knew that we were getting wet but there was never any extremely hard rain, so the 1.2" I poured out at midnight was a bit surprising. Anyhow, I'll watch Brett in the a.m. and will post an update and cumulative rainfall total for Emma later in the day.

The rainfall rates are definitly increasing, and I have 1.1" of rain in my guage here in Marceline.

Wow, almost the ENTIRE state of Missouri is getting Gustav rains right now, it is just amazing, yes we are still getting light to occasionally approaching mod. rain in St. Joe, add this with the frog stranglers we got with the initial cold front and this is turning into a decent event for us to. This slower rain will soak in better and suddenly everything will look decidedly lush and green and you would have no idea you just came off of August, it may even help out with the soon upcoming fall colors, giving the trees one last good drink before fall really sets in.

Another 1.36" for Paola bringing our total to 3.42". Very unpleasant walk with Windy the past two mornings, in the rain and just enough wind to keep the umbrella from helping any at all. I miss summer already. Cool temperatures and sunshine are nice, however I much prefer the heat and humidity. But rain? Enough already!--deb

In Warrensburg we are at 4.5" in the guage so far since yesterday morning. I have been also watching the weatherbug station here in Warrensburg and at Whiteman and for some time I have noticed a large difference in the 2. The one here in town matches my guage always but the Whiteman one is usually half the amount. Don't know which to believe sometimes.
