Ike really looks like it could be a dangerous storm in the Gulf of Mexico next week.

A lot will depend on how much land interaction Ike has with Cuba. There is some very high terrain on the island.

I am really hoping that you will knock that high on monday back down to the upper 50's with lots and lots of rain. My yard is looking so much better and I love that cool weather! On a side note I am very happy that Ike has taken a turn away from Florida since we have family who are going on vacation to Disneyworld! We aren't going until Nov. 30th. We were trying to avoid the hotter temps and the hurricane season. Anyway have a great weekend everybody and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last week you posted your sister station's url so we could watch live coverage from New Orleans. I hope you will consider the same thing as Ike approaches. It was fascinating to see how the "locals" actually handle this evacuation.

I'll add that again this week if the hurricane moves into the Gulf and threatens coastal locations. Let's just hope New Orleans catches a break this time.

I spoke to my mother back in New England tonight. She said they had some heavy rain at times and were expecting wind gusts in the 50-mph range, but nothing extraordinary. She's in Connecticut, about as far southeast as you can go (five-minute walk from Rhode Island and three miles from the ocean). Just watch the movie "Mystic Pizza" and you'll see where she lives. She did say the northwestern part of Connecticut had three inches of rain in just a few hours and was expecting flooding. The hills in that part of the state range from 1,000 up to 3,000 feet above sea level. That will probably channel a lot of the water into the streams and create some floods.

I DON"T LIKE IKE!!! What is the chance that if Ike hits the Louisiana/ Texas coast that it travels up to KC? I've got scheduled outdoor plans all during the week of 9-15 through 9-20. Sure would hate to cancel them again...

At the moment it is tough to tell where Ike will make landfall along the Gulf Coast and the possible strength. So to forecast where it heads inland is still way too early. Later this week another front will move into our area, so some rain is in the forecast already for the time frame you are wondering about. I'll keep everyone updated on the status of Ike as more data rolls in.

Watching the 6Z GFS, which normally stinks at initializing tropical storms, has Ike clearly, and brings it into the Gulf. This is not new information, but what struck me was how clear the GFS has it...and...how big it makes Ike in the Gulf.

Will have to see..but not liking this set up either. Verde storms are not the most forgiving on the Gulf.

My guage here in Marceline had 0.40" from lastnight's rain. That gives me a 2 day total of 3.00" here in Marceline.

Tomorrow looks interesting.

Too much rain, everything is getting that moldy, stinky smell outside..yuk! It has rained here everyday for the past 5 days! No significant sunshine to dry things out and thus mold is growing as the ground is saturated here. Paola always seems to get way more rain than we need. I miss sunshiny days, I'm already thinking about and dreading the gloomy, dreary days of winter. Farmgirl, I hope you can get your outdoor activities in over the next couple of weeks, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Well, despite the drizzle, we ended up with a good turnout at our block party last night! I am excited about the prospect of temps. in the 50's tomorrow- hope that pans out!! I would love having "Fall" year round!! However my coffee consumption would go WAY up!! I can't believe the Gulf may get pounded by yet another hurricane!! Doesn't hurricane season usually end around the end of Sept. ? Bet the people in the gulf can't wait for it to be over! Dea

We were at the Spinach festival in Lenexa yesterday and it was a great cool day until the rain moved in. I felt bad for all the people who were frantically trying to cover up their booths so their merchandise wouldn't get wet. Today while I was out walking my dog I saw a wolly caterpillar. His coat was pretty thick; the Farmers' Almanac would say that's a sign of things to come! =)

Looks like so showers building just to the South of the metro- will we get wet sooner than we thought.

I mentioned a stray shower was possible today. So those little showers are right on cue.

Once the low level jet kicks in tonight we will see thunderstorms develop.

Front should move through by early afternoon. Later in areas to the south and east.

I think the storms fire up tonight...probably after 2 a.m. These little one's right now shouldn't build into the main line.

Totals will vary greatly since we are talking thunderstorms. Some areas could 1-2" of rain...while others will be 0.25" or less.

The most active t-storm right now is just north of KCI. About 15 lightning strikes in the last 10 minutes with that one.
