How much strength could Ike gain after it enters the gulf? Could it be a "major" hurricane?

I would say it will be a category 2 or 3 hurricane in the gulf. The amount of interaction with Cuba will be key and also the shear it will encounter before a possible landfall.

Thanks for the update. I know not everyone loves this cool weather, but I'm just loving it. Fall is my favorite season and this is making it last longer! Thanks for letting us know about the falling temps for tomorrow, I'll send jackets with my girls. Hoping for some more rain in western Olathe!

Looks like Ike's eye might spend a fair amount of time over Cuba... weakening it like you say, Jeremy. My brother and wife are just east of Lake Okeechobee, they expect to get the winds.

Why are Leavenworth schools closed??

They won't see hurricane force winds...but maybe some tropical storm force wind gusts.

The schools are closed because of a water main break.

hmmm... the spc has us under a slight risk for severe weather tomorrow? I know I've been away from the computer & tv all day, but what's up with that? Are we going to get wind & hail tomorrow?

Hello everyone. I was going to ask about the severe chances tomorrow but it looks like StormWyndd already has that covered. LOL. But I have another question.

I know this may be hard to answer but it seems that around this transition time from summer to fall we have a "second severe weather season". So my question is should we expect this "second severe weather season" this year? And if so, when?

Loud and vibrant thunder in Leawood. Lightning flashes coming through the window, and just had a brief but heavy pouring of rain for about 5-8min in length.

Whew! I think we dodged that one here in Paola. Lots of thunder and lightning flashes but no rain, yea! Windy and I took a very quick walk but I think we'll go back out now that the lightning has stopped. We sure could use a dry day here. I don't like the idea of digging out hooded sweatshirts and turtlenecks already....*sigh*. I hope everyone has a safe day and no bad storms.
