Wow! I hope everyone enjoyed the day. I just got in from walking Breezy and Stormy. Football is coming on NBC, and I will sit down to watch the Kansas City Chiefless playoffs again. And, the cold front is about to blast through. Jeremy is doing a fantastic job. I know he likes this kind of weather, but for me I am ready for winter's return tonight.

Have a great evening everyone and enjoy that cold front coming in. I grew up in Southern California and we never had a front quite like this during my entire childhood. My point is that as boring as a dry front may seem it is still quite fascinating.

I agree w/ Gary if it's going to be winter then be winter,not that I haven't enjoyed this great day but ready for snow and fun like that. I heard somewhere taht there was going to be sleet and yukky stuff tomorrow - did I just dream that up? I feel pretty out of touch with the blog these days! I'm always a ninny on slick roads - but during the last batch we had, I slid down a hill really close to our house, went into the ditch (which is a deep one), flipped my jeep and ended up hanging upside down by my seatbelt! If there's ANY chance of slick roads, I'm staying put tomorrow! Just didn't know if it was true or not.

Well its 4:30PM here in McLouth, our temp has dropped to 46 after a high of 61, with a dewpoint of 41. Our winds are out of the nnw at 9 gusting to 18 giving us a windschill of 42. The barometer has dropped to 29.64 dropping at a rate of 0.05n per hour. We have a very thick overcast with fog. No drizzle or anything here yet.

Interesting a low right over KC, one over Springfield, another one just west of Denver and one west of Phoenix and yet a fifth one coming ashore off LA. All with a jet streaming in at 80mph from the high country of New Mexico and Arizona. The jet dropps back down to about 50 just west of Topeka. Still looks like nothing in precip coming, nothing but some very cold air. Grab your coat and turn the furnace back on.

Wind is sweeping across the plains here in La Cygne.

As usual this winter, gusts are 30+ MPH. Dust is swirling around the barn and the weathervane is twirling around. One gust was so strong it blew the big old cast iron bell so hard it was ringing on its own!

hey just got back from atlanta where i was visting faimly for the holidays and of course it was cool and damp and in the 40s most of the week while it was in the 50s and 60s here now i get back here and they are predicting 30s here and 50s and 60s in atlanta???????????? weather can be unfair.

Watching "Destroyed in Seconds" on Discovery HD and they just ran a clip of Reed Timmer from before he started doing TVN or the Storm Chasers series... It would be refreshing if he'd stopped being quite so over the top, but I'm guessing that isn't going to happen.

Wind let up here, just gradually getting colder.

Wind staying up all night and tomorrow? I saw that Jeremy. Well its 9PM now and it has now dropped to 23 here in McLouth after a high of 61. Our winds are whipping good now, 13 gusting to 23 out of the North. The wind chill is a crazy 11. Better not be any snow, this cold air is enough. Can't be any snow, there isn't any moisture to work with. That snow in Colorado is going to go NE into Nebraska and on into Iowa.

A flurry or snow shower is possible tonight, but overall just cold and windy. On Sunday winds will probably be in the 10-20 mph range.

I came up to my mom's in south dakota for the new years, and it's alot colder up here. Went up to a regional wrestling tournament in Salem, and the drive home was nasty, blizzard conditions with visibility at near zero alot of the way. The temp is currently 1 degree here, but my son got a new snowboard, so is any snow gonna be making it to Leavenworth anytime soon?

Did today count? There's always one day in January... Maybe this year it will be 2. It was indeed a great day, I washed 3 cars inside and out. Never had the cold beverage until it was around freezing, but it was still sweet none-the-less!

Another windblasted front tonight here in St. Joe, yes this winter will be known as... "the winter of the "Megafronts", yes just finished giving my thermometer an Aspirin. we did get some mist earlier and a FEW snow flakes that were being blasted around in the wind. Well the northwest flow will be coming back with a vengeance so that could get wild in its own way. On another note as the sun angle slowly begins to recover but the atmosphere lags and will still be cold later this winter and the way this pattern seems to run, we could be looking at strong wind fields combined with better mixing so if you don't like the wind... it could be a long winter into spring.

Good breezy chilly morning to you sir!! Currently sitting at 16 here this morning with a fairly stiff breeze out of the North-it is quite refreshing out this morning but man that wind brings back Bryan Adams: It cuts like a knife...

What a day yesterday-it was absolutely beautiful out and the wind was not bad at all until the front moved through. I took the boys out to the Cabin on Lone Star lake yesterday-pretty cool that the cabin arm was still locked in with ice-we had a ball!! (I promise, the boys did not get on the ice!!! We did chop some for the fun of it though!!) The cabin is kind of built into a hill and we were doing stuff when we heard the front come through with the wind whisteling in the trees-pretty cool deal!!!

I find it kind of interesting that the front has yet to really clear St. Louis this morning-it really slowed down last night. Will be fun to follow the next few weeks-one thing I think we have seen is that these fronts have much more power this time through the cycle than in November. Dry though they may be, they are still cool to follow!! Noticed again that the 0Z Euro continues to show the heights rising in the Gulf of Alaska in the 10 day range-the active pattern is comming into focus!!! That can wait-I am still hopeing for something fun in this NW flow as we did have some energy make it uner the flow in November-and these fronts-from a weather enthusist perspective man they are awesome!!!

Despite the lack of moisture, these fronts have been fun to track. Numerous temperature swings of 40+ degrees is pretty fascinating.

70 degrees here yesterday, stayed outside all day long playing ball with Windy and watching her "herd" the two smaller dogs around the yard, it was perfect, made me forget about living in Kansas in January! Back to reality this morning, it's 14, wind is howling at 16mph (seems worse because it's cold). I'm thankful it's dry, keep on hoping that it stays dry and gives the ground some chance to dry out a bit, we are way overboard on the mud factor when it's warm. I think, thus far, I will remember this winter as the year of the wind, maybe you all in the city don't notice it as much but out here, with open prairie the wind this winter has been a major factor, quite significant. Well here's to hoping for calm breezes, dry weather, and sunshiney temperatures in the 90s...;) Have a great Sunday everyone!

Fun to track? The first time around it was hard to believe the swing, this time a little easier. The next time, we'll see. Its 11 here in McLouth now and yesterday at 4PM it was 60. Did I mention its cold outside.
