Beautiful Rainbow here in La Cygne this morning. Sun to the east and dark skies with thunder to the west and starting to rain. I just love it when the sun is out and it rains so I can enjoy the rainbows.

I have a pic of the rainbow, what email address could I send the picture too?

If you are considering cap purely off the 10C 700mb, it would seem we are on the edge. Based on the RUC and actual soundings from TOP, CINH is almost nothing...so, I would not say there is much of any cap out there.

I see no reason why it wouldn't ride down the boundary to the SE and along the pressure gradient of the surface high to our east.

Looks to be doing a good job of rain production due to its speed and upper air moisture support. In looking at the progs, I wonder if this surface low doesn't take a bit of a more southern trajectory based on the cold pool ahead of it from this rain.

If so, maybe puts us just NE of the surface low, near the boundary and where the LLJ later tonight gets us closer to the action? Dunno..need to do more analysis.

Of all times to wish for rain! Rain mass seems so close yet so far away. Seems like most of metro has enjoyed a soaking rain except the northeast portion. This is rare considering how the storms have moved this year.
Beginning to sprinkle here finally as the area begins to wrap up. Not seeing any more redevelopment like you were pointing out earlier Gary. Does this mean tonight/tomorrow morning's rain will be over this area and further east?
Everyone have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July holiday! Anyone around Liberty, the Mayor is reading the Declaration of Independence on the square at 10 am tomorrow. Sounds like fun to go and listen.

Perfect! Here in south JoCo, we've had a good steady rain with periods of hard rain for about two hours. A few rumbles of thunder, but a good and needed rain that means we won't have to water anything today. Now we have to see how heavy that 9 remaining (of the 12) cubic yards of mulch is when we go out to move and spread it later on. Aww, we can do it -- my personalized vehicle tag is MULCH!

This rain is great . I had put down fungus control on my lawn last night and Gary said he had all but taken the rain out of the forcast for this morning on the 10:00 P.M weather. I remember thinking I jinxed it again and I'd have to water.

I didn't take it out. Actually I left it in but I did downplay it a bit. But, I know it should be no surprise at all as we have talked about Friday morning and Saturday morning rain all week long.

Anyway, it is a nice rain for the lawn today in many spots.

Darne't, whenever I go on vacation I miss the best weather! :) Sand Diego is still really nice this morning though depsite the marine layer. I like it actually. It made most people leave the beach yesterday. When I got in at first it was icy cold but then it became soothingly warm. ;-) I get back on Monday, will we still be in the MCS zone then?

Is this stuff that's forming up in NE Neb going to get us? Looks like it's on the right track. I had used up all the water in my rain barrels & still my garden had dried up so bad there were big cracks in the ground. Hoping the garden gets a good drink and the barrels get refilled before the heat comes back.

Impressive surface low on obs. Cool watching the upper level wave in Panhandle force the issue. I can see a bit of cu fields building ahead of it near an outflow with the cu just gushing up from the south to meet it near DDC.

Cap or no cap, too much going on in western KS for it to stay stable. In our area, seems that the warm air hasn't cleared fast enough in the mid levels to push the cap into our area...still development coming in from the NW.

Tricky forecast indeed.

Um, Scott, that's a line of thunderstorms! Sheesh, do I have to explain everything to you? ;-)

As Gary said in his forecast, they';; be mostly north and east of the Metro, though I wouldn't mind a wee bit more rain down our way. Come this time next week, we'll be hollering for a rainy cooldown, I'm sure.

WOW this has been some crazy weather this year!! Who would have thought that a Tornado watch would be issued to our north.

I just jumped ... I thought it was really booming with a sharp clap of thunder but realized it was the illegal fireworks that people must be shooting off here in the city of Olathe. We are near 151st and Pflumm. The radar appears clear so it must be a lot of fireworks nearby ...

After hearing Gary's forecast tonight I'm debating whether I should pack a pair of jeans for the fireworks tomorrow night. 73 for the evening almost doesn't sound warm enough for shorts. Weird to think it could actually be a little chilly out when the fireworks go off.

309 am here in south KC and we have thunder and lightning and lots of rain. Its nice outside though. I just wish it would rain around 8 pm for about 20 min to get my roof nice and wet. LOL we always douse our roof with water on the 4th just in case. The last time I remember it being chilly on the 4th was about 12 years ago. I remember my first son was in a stroller wrapped up in a blanket. It was so cold that night everyone was outside wrapped in blankets watching big fireworks. I think it was 1997.

Ahhhhh, I slept through it all! Our basement is cozy and so quiet during most storms, so I hunkered down there on the sofa bed with the (tranquilized) dogs just before it began to rain. The evil 18-year old from down the street was setting off huge fireworks, aimed at neighbors' backyards, and at 8:30, a neighbor lady called to ask if I would call the police. She said he had his little brothers and sisters with him and the parents weren't home. She was too timid to call the cops, so I did. This kid is seriously spoiled and could use a good dose of military discipline. One day he'll run over a kid while he speeds down our street. I had no qualms at all about reporting him.

I'm so glad we had enough rain to discourage grass fires. If people blow themselves up, that's one thing, but damaging other peoples' property is another. And if the counties around here wanted to pad their coffers, they would make a concerted effort to issue citations to fireworks scofflaws. They could bring in millions of $$ down here in south JoCo. It's going to sound like Fallujah here tonight.
