Ug, looks like the heat will be in full force just in time for my niece's wedding on Friday- thankfully it's inside!! Last night however was absolutely perfect weather for Starlight Theatre!! What a great evening temperature-wise!!

Yeah, this forecast just makes me want to buy a drum of roundup and kill my lawn. At least I'll be able to jump into the pool most every day this week.

This morning has been perfect weather for garden work. The sun came out for a few minutes and my husband yelled "Damned sun!" LOL, he doesn't mind golfing in sunny 100-degree heat, but sun and 70 degrees in the garden is intolerable!

The Evil Teenager down the block set off M80s at 9am. Dear Husband had to restrain me from going down there and doing an impression of my mother...

You'd be better off having ugly grass than no grass during excessive heat. If you kill it off, and it can't come back for a year or so, the dry, black dirt gets VERY hot. Believe me, I used to have that problem.

Looks like I will have to board up the windows once more due to the heat on the way. I will usually try anything to keep it cool in the house.

If you had bunches of rain from those storms the other night, I want to wish you the best. ;) That will be quite muggy.

That's not bad! I had the rocks of some gigantic fireworks still hitting my roof until 3am when I was at the Lake of the Ozarks the other night.

When I'm at home, I can go outside and see the fireworks yet not hear them since I am on a hill, and my nearest neighbors are literally a mile away! 1.25 to be exact.

Jeremy, I was gone for the past couple of day so just had the chance to see how much rain my stratus gauge collected and it held 2.13 inches of rain for this 4th of July weekend.

Guys, I've lost track of whether the hourly forecast and 5 day forecast that are posted to this web site are from your in-house forecasting models, from the NWS, or from one of the many other external sources that are out and about.

Thursday through Saturday nights look to be good for tropospheric ducting once more, which means I will have plenty of television to watch, if I didn't already have enough. It'll also mean that KOLR10 will likely be interfered with once more. It's all good though :)

Xeno - indeed these patterns can increase a programming lineup, huh? With the inversions being the key, I suspect your best TV watching is overnight?

Nice to see discussion weather related touching on other facets of science.

Too bad inversions in Winter could not be used as handily as they can be just as robust or more, but likely the more likely cloud cover and more prevalent pressure gradients would be too disruptive.

Since the DTV conversion I can pick up a couple of Topeka stations at home. When I was growing up I was in an area that had 3 different CBS affiliates. That was great for NFL games...often there would be two different games on:)

I'm in san Diego and people were setting of slow burning wick firecrackers and throwing them in peoples yards. Very scary here and much worse a crime that in Kansas. Dry here, perfecct to go wandering in the desert today! It only got to 102 degrees. I think we all got heat exahstion once we walked over the first tresle.

Down here in the Lincoln area, I am able to pick up 3 stations from each major network all of the time on digital. (KC, Springfield, Columbia)

I have experienced times during the middle of the day where I can pick up stations from Miami, Florida, or sometimes stations from Mexico on analog channels 2-5. It was strong enough 1 time to where it took over 3 from Springfield, or even channels 4 and 5. This happened back during a heat wave we had in 2006 when I was down here that summer.

During the nights of that heatwave in 2006, it was just a mess. During one part of the night, I had probably 30+ analog stations, and then later, I had only 2 or 3 that were watchable simply because there were too many stations and they were all too strong, and they interfered each other. This happened for a couple nights.

Now that the analog channels are gone, and there are just the digital frequencies, I seem not to have as big of a problem in terms of interference as I did back then. The stations that left their frequencies on VHF seem to be the only ones to be interfered with. KSHB comes in pretty good. :)

The calm patterns always have the best signal, and it is often exceptional during a nice long heatwave with much humidity. Thus stated, this didn't happen much last year!

Growing up in S. Minnesota, you had the Packers and Vikings, yes? Hmmm...sounds like your luck in seeing the Topeka stations is more interesting.

It was usually Vikings & Packers growing up for the MN stations. We also could get the Sioux Falls stations...so Broncos and Chiefs games would pop up too.

Xeno - based on your location, it seems you have your choice of relevancy based on being almost smack dab in the triangle of KC, Columbia and Springfield. It its own right, that is a luxury.

I have been digital since I can remember [yes, I remember HBO when it had the intro of the miniature city], so I have no good analog stories to share short of some pretty wicked citizens band skips I encountered.

Looking long range, it will be interesting to watch from the 18th on. If things go as expected, the high pressure that will be to our West will shift quickly over the Central Plains and head to the mid Atlantic states. That could bring some hot temps over that area.

At the same time, we should see a developing Canadian ridge that should bring split flow to the CONUS...the problem is in late July, there is little flow to being with. This should stagnate the Central Plains. This was also the same part of the pattern that brought that weird subtropical storm up from Florida.

If we have stagnant air, and likely dewpoints in the upper 60s to low 70s based on transevapration, it is going to be horrible feeling outside.

After this week of upcoming heat, we will get a nice break around the 14th or so with a cold front that will make it through the area followed by a few days of storminess until the ridge begins moving east. We should have some moisture in the ground to lend to the higher humidity.

Jeremy. I live in Topeka and our station always shows Chiefs games when they are on (as they should). However, when the Chiefs are not on they will sometimes show a different game than the KC CBS station which is nice (if it isn't blacked out!).

You can say that again, Scott. Our wonderful cable company often blocks the Kansas City CBS station during regular programming as well (at the request of the Topeka station), so we can't usually watch a different game if it is on.
